Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort
Established in 2005, Musical Theater Competitions of America (MTCA) is a three-day creative collaboration among musical theater producers, directors, costume designers, set designers and choreographers held at the Hilton Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, Anaheim, California. This annual three-day extravaganza provides a competitive yet education event for musical theater students and directors alike!
Unlike other festivals, MTCA students are allowed the use of costumes, props, microphones and blocks to enhance their storytelling capabilities during their adjudications. Competitive categories include:
-
group musical
-
group composer revue
-
vocal solo
-
vocal duet
-
monologue
-
musical theater dance solo
-
costume design
-
hair and makeup design
-
set design
All Students receive live immediate and relevant feedback that encourages growth and development.
The MTCA adjudication team is comprised of college-level theater faculty, Broadway performers and choreographers, Disney Master Class teachers, and regional theater owners.
The festival concludes with a magical awards ceremony at Knott’s Berry Farm theme park. Over 200 awards are handed out to the winning performers in each category. Following the awards, students and directors enjoy a day of fun experiencing the best that Knott’s Berry Farm has to offer!
This year we will be staying at the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort. This hotel is adjacent to the Hilton hotel where MTCA is held. Your tuition includes either a King room suite or a 2 Queen bed suite. We are limited to the number of 2 Queen bed suites that our group can have and will therefore be reserved for those families with more than 2 people attending. There is an additional expense for parking of $30/day plus tax. Breakfast is NOT included with this hotel.
Tuition:
Tuition is based on which group events you will be participating in. For those participating in the Showtune and Musical Revue entries your tuition is $2,450 with rehearsals on Tuesdays. For those that are invited to participate in our Ensemble entry which has an additional rehearsal night on Thursdays your tuition is $2,500. Tuition includes four nights hotel accommodations at the Sheraton Park Hotel (Arriving THU, February 6th, Departing MON, February 10th), admission for two participants (parent and student), DRMT instructional fee, transportation to Knott’s Berry Farm, admission for two to Knott’s Berry Farm and a t-shirt. Additional participants can attend for a cost of $335 each and that includes a ticket to Knott’s Berry Farm. Deadline for additional participants is December 10th.
Tuition does not include transportation to and from California.
Tuition Payment Schedule:
A non-refundable deposit of $250 (Showtune and Musical Revue)/$300 (Plus Ensemble) is due August 10th with 4 installments each $550 due the 10th of each month beginning with September 10th and concluding with December 10th, 2024.
2nd Child Tuition: $1,250/$1,300 per participant with the same deposit requirement followed by 4 installments each $250 due the 10th of each month beginning with September 10th and concluding with December 10th, 2024
New Requirement for MTCA Students:
Those students participating in our MTCA program are not allowed to participate in any outside theatre programs other than their school during our rehearsal schedule. We have found that when our students try to do too many activities it creates conflicts that will jeopardize their MTCA participation. Exceptions will be granted on a case by case basis and must be cleared with Ms. Debbie.
