MTCA - 2021

March 25th - March 29th

Established in 2005, Musical Theater Competitions of America (MTCA) is a three-day creative collaboration among musical theater producers, directors, costume designers, set designers and choreographers held at Fullerton College in Fullerton, California.  This annual three-day extravaganza provides a competitive yet education event for musical theater students and directors alike!

Unlike other festivals, MTCA students are allowed the use of costumes, props, microphones and blocks to enhance their storytelling capabilities during their adjudications.  Competitive categories include:
  • group musical
  • group composer revue
  • vocal solo
  • vocal duet
  • monologue
  • musical theater dance solo
  • costume design
  • hair and makeup design
  • set design
All Students receive live immediate and relevant feedback that encourages growth and development.

The MTCA adjudication team is comprised of college-level theater faculty, Broadway performers and choreographers, Disney Master Class teachers, and regional theater owners. The Saturday Nights Finale features performances from Broadway guests Taylor Lauderman who received a 2018 Emmy nomination for her starring role as Regina George in Mean Girls and Christopher J. Hanke who starred opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

The festival concludes with a magical awards ceremony at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California.  Over 200 awards are handed out to the winning performers in each category on the majestic Fantasyland Theater Stage.  The ceremony last year was highlighted by a surprise visit from Mickey & Minnie Mouse, which garnered a roar of approval from the audience.  Following the awards, students and directors enjoy a day of fun experiencing the best that Disneyland has to offer!

Trip Cancellation Insurance:

MTCA strongly urges all groups to secure individual or group travel insurance.

In an effort to assist with the additional cost of securing travel insurance, MTCA is offering a $20.00 per person reduction of fees for groups that secure coverage. Proof of insurance must be provided to MTCA to initiate fee reduction.

Seven Corners Travel Insurance is offering comprehensive travel insurance plans, which cover any pre-paid MTCA fees. Options include cancellation for any reason, which includes CV19 related travel cancellations. Please see the Seven Corners Roundtrip Elite Brochure for more details.  They also have a less expensive Roundtrip Choice program.  Cancel for any reason will pay up to 75% of your total cost.

To purchase, please click on the following link to get a quote from Seven Corners Travel InsuranceThe trip cost should be the total amount of the tuition you select ($2,171, $2,459 or $2,531, plus $1,236 for second child).  You will need to insure both you and your child.  You will then split the total cost between the two of you.  The average premium for the two of you will range between $140 – $155 ($100 – $115 with the MTCA fee reduction).  If you decide to purchase this insurance, we will issue you a receipt for each payment that you make.  This receipt will state that the amount you paid is non-refundable.  This is to benefit you in the case you should need to file a claim.  You must purchase this insurance within 20 days of your first payment.
